Type 1 | Type 2 | Type 3 | Type 4 Hair Types – All You Need To Know

Hair Types.

Hair texture is divided  into four categories:  Type 1 is straight, Type 2 is wavy, Type 3 is curly, and Type 4 is tightly curled.

Based on the curl pattern, density, porosity, width, and length of the hair, it can be divided into three categories: a, b, and c.

List of different types of hair and its characteristics follows.

Thin and silky to thick and poofy: these are the two extremes of straight hair type.

However, what is common to all women with straight hair?  You get that megawatt shine because your scalp oil is easily able to flow down the lengths of your hair and keep them nourished.

Kind 1a

Straight hair types 1a are usually the flattest, thinnest, and silkiest.

Kind 1b

1b hair is still very straight, but it has some curls and a few strands that are rougher.

Kind 1c

Because 1c hair is thicker and coarser, it is also more likely to frizz, puff up, and get dry.

Hair that is neither straight nor curly, but has waves. The sheen is neither straight nor curly.

Also, curly hair is more likely to frizz up than straight hair. Some kinds of wavy hair are easy to style, while others are harder to do so.

Kind 2a

The wave in 2a hair comes from a flat S-shaped pattern, which is different from 1c hair.

2a hair is usually thinner and flatter than the other types of 2 hair, and it is easy to blow out and straighten.

Kind 2b

2b hair tends to have S-shaped waves that are a bit more defined and usually has a fine or medium thickness.

Kind 2c

Since type 2c curls are right on the edge of type 3 curls, they still mostly have S-shaped waves, but they can also have a few loose curls and coarser textures mixed in.

2c waves tend to get messy and lose their shape quickly.

This hair type has a tendency to be thick and full.

Kind 3a

Most 3a hair has loose curls, and only a few waves.

3a curls tend to be smaller, easier to blow out, and very sensitive to humidity, wind, and dryness.

Kind 3b

Most people with 3b hair have curls that are about the size of your finger or a marker.

These curls are tighter and have more bounce than 3a curls, but they also dry out and frizz more.

Kind 3c

3c curls are much tighter and closer together than 3b curls. This gives your hair a lot of body.

They are also the most likely of the type 3 curls to get dry and break.

It is frequently brittle and has a very high density.

This  hair type shrinks when wet because its cuticle layers are thinner than those of other hair types.t is more prone to damage than other varieties of hair.

Kind 4a

4a hair has the tightest, smallest coils, which are often mixed with some 3c curls that are just barely big enough to wrap around a crochet needle.

Kind 4b

Instead of curling or coiling around itself, 4b hair bends in a sharp, zigzag shape about the size of a ballpoint pen spring.

Kind 4c

The Z-shape of 4c hair is much tighter than that of 4b hair, and it has the fewest cuticle layers of any hair type.

What influences hair type?

Research has shown that hair type and texture are inherited. Hair type and texture are also influenced by a “additive” feature.

Because of this, the amount of diversity in the genes that cause curly hair is passed down through generation after generation.

As a result, even when two parents have naturally curly hair, it is possible that their offspring will not have naturally curly hair as well.

It’s possible that parents with curly hair will pass on their straight-haired traits to their children. Hair texture can be influenced by genetic interactions as well.  Because of this different people in a family may have distinct hair kinds.

There are several factors that might affect hair texture  such as the weather and pollution.

Hair can become frizzy or curly in high humidity and dry and frizzy in cold weather.

The ability of your hair to absorb moisture is referred to as porosity by hairstylists.

The cuticle, the outermost layer of hair, contains several pores if your hair is porous. It is possible that your hair is naturally porous, or that it has been chemically and thermally processed to become more porous.

Your hair’s cuticle pores allow it to absorb more moisture more quickly. Your hair may frizz if you live in a humid climate.

Test for hair porosity

Discard the water and rinse your hair with it.

It’s time to have a peek after a few minutes.

Hair with a low porosity level floats.

High porosity means hair that sink

The number of hairs on your head is referred to as hair density.

You probably have dense hair if you can’t see your scalp well.

You probably have low hair density if you can see your scalp without dividing your hair.

Is it possible to change your hair type?

It is impossible to alter the genetic makeup of hair. However, hair can be straightened or curled using a variety of at home and salon procedures. Some are permanent, while others are only transitory.

Short term ways to change the type of hair

Some temporary methods are:

Blow drying:

To curl or straighten hair, you can use a round or flat brush and hot or cold air to blow dry your hair.

Using products to care for hair:

Shampoos, conditioners, leave-in conditioners, hair serums and hairsprays are used to coat the hair strands, reduce frizz and curls, and add moisture.

Applying essential oils:

Natural oils like coconut oil, almond oil, argan oil, or a mix of these oils can help improve the texture of your hair.

Tools for styling hair:

Change your hair type with long lasting treatments

Permanent perming or straightening:

This is a chemical technique that changes the hair permanently. It alters the hair’s protein connections.

Depending on the substances used, the effects can linger for years.

The new hair that grows will be of the same type as the person’s old hair.

Treatments at home:

To straighten or curl hair, you can use a variety of chemical products.

Semi-permanent hair straightening treatments include keratin hair treatments, Brazilian blowouts, and other semi-permanent hair straightening procedures.

The conclusion.

You may have varying curl patterns on various portions of your head.

To maintain healthy, bouncy, and defined curls, you will need to experiment with different products to see which ones work best for your hair.

The curlier and more porous your hair, the more probable it is that you will need to moisturize it frequently and intensively to maintain it healthy.

If you are unsure of where to begin, seek a professional who specializes in your hair type or follow someone on social media with your hair type.
